History of Milborne St Andrew Football Club 

 

Milborne St Andrew Football Club was first formed in 1912 with their first league match being played in November of that year.  Milborne finished 2nd in the league in the 1912/13 season just 1 point behind local rivals Milton Abbas.

On New Years Eve a most enjoyable and successful dance was held in the schoolroom in Chapel Street in aid of the recently formed Football Club.  The room was nicely decorated by the organising committee.  Dancing commenced at 8 o’clock and was kept up until 4 am with all joining hands and singing Auld Lang Syne at midnight.  The proceeds amounted to £7.

October 10th 1912

Whitechurch - V - Milborne Saints

The game played at Whitechurch and after a good game the Saints proved victorious by 2 goals to 1.

 

January 16th 1913

Milborne - V -  Dorchester Reserves

Played at Milborne on Thursday in fine weather and after a good game Milborne won by 2 – 0.

 

Mid Dorset Village League

Milborne - V - Puddletown

Played at Milborne on Saturday.  After a wet morning the ground was in very bad condition but a fast game was seen, Milborne running out winners by 3 goals to 1.  F E Handford and F Park scored for the home team.

April 17th 1913

Puddletown Juniors - V - Milborne Juniors

The above teams met on the Milborne Seniors field on Saturday and a fast game ended in a win for the visitors by 3 goals to 2.  The winner’s goals were scored by W Groves (2) and M G Hewlett (1).

 

October 2nd 1913

Milborne - V - Bere Regis

Played on the ground of the former on Saturday and resulted in a win for Milborne by 6 goals to nil.  The scorers being S Corbin (2), W Derrick (2) and F Park (2).

 

November 7th 1913

Mid Dorset Village League

Played at Milton on Saturday.  This was the first league match for Milborne and after a good game the match ended in a draw of 2 goals each.

In the 1912/13 season in which Milborne Football Club was formed, Sunderland won the First Division, Blackburn Rovers won the Charity Shield, Aston Villa won the FA Cup against Sunderland 1-0 and Notts County and Arsenal were relegated to the Second Division, with Preston North End and Burnley promoted.
